Multan Sultans Team is 6th team of PSL 3. Which is participating first time Pakistan super league 2018. Wasim Akram joins the Multan Sultans Squad as the cricket operations director of the side and Tom Moody joins the team as their head coach.
The Schon Group successfully won the rights of Multan Sultans as 6th team in PSL 3rd edition 2018.PSL congratulates the Schon Group when they agreed to pay $5200000 per year for Multan Sultans Team as 6th team of Pakistan Super League 2018.
Pakistan Super League 2017 was played between 5 teams Islamabad united, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. But Pakistan Super League 2018 is being played between six teams and Multan Sultans Squad is participating as the sixth team in this tournament.
There were 5 regions which were in the competition of becoming 6th team of PSL 2018. Hyderabad, Dera Murad Jamali, FATA, Multan and Faisalabad were the participants. Multan won this competition and become the sixth team of PSL 2018 as Multan Sultans Team.
The reason of making six teams is that Pakistan Super League is become very popular in 2nd edition. When PSL popularity increase and expenses increased automatically therefore PSL decided to make sixth team to cover expenses.The making of the 6th team also increases the number of matches that will be played in the Pakistan Super League 2018. The last two seasons of the PSL saw a sum total of 24 matches played but this season, there will be 34 matches. During the Pakistan Super league stage could be hosted in Pakistan while the final of the PSL 3 will also be played in Lahore or Karachi.
